This can be done with the help of a built-in Command Line Console available in your account. It\u2019s called \u201cGoogle Cloud Shell\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cloud Shell is only available for the accounts that have a <\/span><strong>Project <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">created. More information on how to enable Google Cloud Shell can be found <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/shell\/docs\/quickstart\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once Cloud Shell is enabled, you are ready to proceed with the CSR generation. Click on the <strong>Activate Google Cloud Shell<\/strong> button from the top menu bar to open the console:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/ggl_cld_csr_1.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The console window will appear at the bottom of the page:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ggl_cld_csr_2.jpg\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As provided on the screenshot, the console will open the current user\u2019s home directory <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><strong>\/home\/user<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A Certificate Signing Request can be generated in this directory or any other directory convenient for you. Run the following OpenSSL command to create a CSR:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout yourdomain.key -out yourdomain.csr<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><strong>*yourdomain <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should be replaced with your actual domain name).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The command will prompt entering the following contact data (use only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alphanumeric\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">English alphanumeric symbols<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while submitting the information):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Country Name<\/strong> (2 letter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2#Officially_assigned_code_elements\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abbreviation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should be used)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>State or Province Name<\/strong> (should not be abbreviated)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Locality Name<\/strong> (city)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Organization Name<\/strong> (NA can be used if there is no Company related to the domain)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Organizational Unit Name<\/strong> (NA can be used if there is no Company related to the domain)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Common Name<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (domain or subdomain name you wish to secure. I.e, example.com, subdomain.example.com or *.example.com for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/domain-type\/wildcard-ssl-certificates\">Wildcard certificates<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Email address<\/strong> (can be left blank)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: If you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/domain-type\/multi-domain-ssl-certificates\">Multi-Domain certificate<\/a>, additional domains or Subject Alternative Names (SANs) should be added during the certificate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/how-do-i-add-more-domains-to-a-multi-domain-certificate\">activation<\/a><\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in your SSLs.com account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A challenge password <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><strong>An optional company name<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should not be filled in order to avoid issues upon the certificate activation. Please skip these fields using <strong>Enter<\/strong> key to leave them empty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once generated, you can see that the command produced two files: <\/span><strong>yourdomain.csr<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong>yourdomain.key. <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are the files that contain<\/span><strong> Certificate Signing Request <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><strong>Private Key <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">codes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CSR code including <em>&#8212;&#8211;BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST&#8212;-<\/em> and <em>&#8212;&#8211;END CERTIFICATE REQUEST&#8212;-<\/em> tags should be pasted into the CSR box on the first step of the certificate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/okay-so-i-ordered-an-ssl-how-do-i-get-it-to-work-on-my-domain\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">activation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in your SSLs.com account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, you can verify the validity of the generated CSR code using this online <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/decoder.link\/result\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSR decoder<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Private Key code starts with <em>&#8212;&#8211;BEGIN PRIVATE KEY&#8212;&#8211;<\/em> and ends with <em>&#8212;&#8211;END PRIVATE KEY&#8212;&#8211;<\/em> tags. This key should be used for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/how-to-install-an-ssl-certificate-on-google-cloud-platform\">certificate installation<\/a> once your certificate is activated and issued. Please make sure to save this file, since a Private Key generated with the CSR is the only key that will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/decoder.link\/sslchecker\/\">match<\/a>&nbsp; certificate created from a CSR. The removal of the Private Key will lead to the certificate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/what-is-an-ssl-reissue-and-when-will-i-need-to-request-it\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reissuance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) can be generated right from your Google Cloud platform account.
