Once the SSL certificate is activated, validated and issued, it is time to install it on the server. To prepare the correct files for the installation, make sure to <\/span>download<\/span><\/a> a compressed .zip archive from your account or from the email sent by Comodo (now Sectigo<\/a>) and unzip it on your local computer. You will need the files called <\/span>example_com.crt<\/em><\/strong> and <\/span>example_com.ca-bundle<\/em><\/strong>, meaning that <\/span>example_com<\/em><\/strong> is your domain name here. <\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, you will need to upload the above mentioned files to Webmin. Click <\/span>Others <\/strong>to expand the menu on the left and then <\/span>Upload and Download<\/strong>. Choose the <\/span>Upload to server<\/strong> tab in the main window, then select the files to upload, specify the path to store them and click <\/span>Upload<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s get to configuring Apache using Webmin.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you have not installed Apache so far, you can find and install it in the <\/span>Unused modules<\/strong> menu in the left-hand panel:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Click the Apache Webserver<\/strong> entry in the Servers<\/strong> menu in the same left-hand panel and choose the Global configuration<\/strong> tab:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Press the <\/span>Configure Apache Modules<\/strong> icon:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In the list of Apache modules, find the <\/span>ssl<\/strong> entry, check the box on the left and press the <\/span>Enable Selected Modules<\/strong> button:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

After a few seconds you should be prompted to the <\/span>Apache Webserver<\/strong>\u2019s main page. Choose the <\/span>Create virtual host<\/strong> tab there.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nSpecify port 443 (the default one) after putting the radio button near the blank field in the Port<\/strong> section, enter the path to the document root folder in Document Root<\/strong> and type in the domain name in the Server Name<\/strong> section. Then press the Create Now<\/strong> button to add a new virtual host:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In the newly opened <\/span>Existing virtual hosts<\/strong> tab, click on the <\/span>globe<\/strong> button next to the virtual host that we have just created:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

After that, find and click on the <\/span>SSL Options<\/strong> icon in <\/span>Virtual Server Options<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Adjust the SSL options in the following way:<\/span><\/p>\n

Enable SSL? <\/strong>– <\/span>select <\/span>Yes<\/strong><\/p>\n

SSL protocols <\/strong>–<\/span> make sure to uncheck SSLv2 and SSLv3 as these protocols are considered to be unsecure<\/span><\/p>\n

Certificate\/private key file <\/strong>–<\/span> the path to the uploaded <\/span>example_com.crt<\/em><\/strong> file Private key file <\/span>–<\/span> the path to the private key file that was initially generated with the CSR code; used for the certificate activation<\/span><\/p>\n

Certificate authorities file <\/strong>\u2013<\/span> the path to the uploaded <\/span>example_com.ca-bundle<\/em><\/strong> file.<\/span><\/p>\n

Press the <\/span>Save<\/strong> button to update the SSL settings:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to apply all of the changes we have made so far, we need to restart Apache. To open the needed page, press the <\/span>Bootup and Shutdown<\/strong> entry under the <\/span>System<\/strong> menu in the left-hand panel, find the <\/span>apache2<\/strong> service and check the corresponding checkbox on the left: <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

After that, scroll down to the very bottom and press the Restart<\/strong> button:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s it! After the successful Apache restart you can check the SSL certificate installation with the help of <\/span>this tool<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you would like your visitors to access the website through https:\/\/ automatically instead of http:\/\/, you can enable the redirection in the following way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Add a new virtual host in <\/span>Apache Webserver <\/strong>>><\/span> Create virtual host<\/strong>, like we did it previously, but specifying port 80 (default for regular http:\/\/) this time:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In the <\/span>Permanent URL redirects<\/strong> section, add \u201c\/\u201d to the <\/span>From <\/strong>field, in order to apply the redirection to the whole website, and \u201c<\/span>https:\/\/example.com<\/em><\/span><\/a>\/<\/em>\u201d for <\/span>To<\/strong> field, replacing example.com<\/em> with the domain name the SSL certificate is issued for. Then press the <\/span>Save <\/strong>button and restart Apache in the same way as it was described earlier in this guide:<\/span><\/p>\n
