A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is a block of code with encrypted information about your company and domain name. This code will be required for <\/span>activation<\/strong><\/a> of an SSL certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are certain requirements for CSR fields:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Common Name: a Fully Qualified Domain Name (e.g., example.com, www.example.com or *.example.com for Wildcard SSL certificates);<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Country: a <\/span>two-letter code<\/strong><\/a> (e.g., US);<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. State (or province);<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Locality (or city);<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Organization (you can enter \u201cNA\u201d if you do not have one);<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Organizational Unit (you can enter \u201cNA\u201d if you do not have one);<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. E-mail address.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    * Only alphanumeric characters should be used when filling out the aforementioned fields. <\/span><\/p>\n

    It is recommended to generate a CSR code specifically on the server where the certificate is to be installed. Alternatively, you may use this <\/span>online tool<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    NB<\/strong>: Using online CSR generation tools is the least preferable option. However, if you use such a tool, please make sure to back up the private key.<\/span><\/p>\n

    There are a few possible options depending on the exact Amazon service you are using:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. If you have a Linux Instance with the <\/span>Apache\/Nginx <\/strong>web server installed, please refer to <\/span>this guide<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. If you have a Windows Instance with Internet Information Services (IIS) web server unlocked, you can follow this <\/span>illustrated guide<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Here<\/strong><\/a> you can find the guide for the <\/span>Tomcat <\/strong>server.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. If you need an SSL certificate for <\/span>Load Balancer<\/strong>, you can generate a CSR code and upload your certificate to AWS with the help of the <\/span>OpenSSL<\/strong><\/a> tool:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The command to generate a private key and a CSR code is the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

      openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout example.key -out example.csr<\/strong><\/p>\n

      * You can replace \u201c<\/span>example<\/strong>\u201d with the domain name the certificate will be issued for in order to easily identify the files later during installation.<\/span><\/p>\n

      * 2048- and 4096-bit are the standard key sizes, it should be not less than 2048-bit key size. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Once a CSR is generated, you will get a block of code with the following tags: <\/span>—–BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST—- and —–END CERTIFICATE REQUEST—-<\/span><\/p>\n

      Please use this code to <\/span>activate<\/strong><\/a> your SSL certificate. <\/span><\/p>\n
