This article defines the complete process of CSR generation on the SonicWALL SSL-VPN Appliance. Please keep in mind that firstly your purchased certificate should be activated. You can find some tips about SSL activation in this <\/span>guide<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

During SSL activation you will require the CSR code generated on your appliance. Please follow the steps down below and check how the process goes.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Log into the SonicWALL SSL-VPN appliance portal.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. After that, please expand the <\/span>System<\/strong> menu and click <\/span>Certificates<\/strong>:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/span><\/p>\n

    3. <\/span>In the <\/span>Server Certificates<\/strong> section, click <\/span>Generate CSR<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    4. On the <\/span>Generate Certificate Signing Request (CSR)<\/strong> page, please specify the following details: <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
    Name:<\/strong><\/td>\nEnter your domain name or subdomain. It will be convenient for you to point out what this SSL certificate is created for.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Organization:<\/strong><\/td>\nSpecify your company\u2019s legally registered name (for example, YourCompany, Inc.) . If you do not have any organization, please put in \u201cNA\u201d instead.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Unit\/Department:<\/strong><\/td>\nSpecify your department within the organization. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    <\/td>\n(Sometimes this field can be prefilled or even be blank; if you have a Domain Validation (DV) certificate, it will be enough to write \u201cNA\u201d in case you do not have any information regarding the department.) <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    City\/Locale:<\/strong><\/td>\nPlease specify your city.  <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    State:<\/strong><\/td>\nPlease specify your state (Also, you can duplicate the city name here if you do not have one)<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Country:<\/strong><\/td>\nEnter the country code. Please note that a two-letter country code should be applied in this field. You can find country codes here: <\/span>https:\/\/countrycode.org<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Domain Name (FQDN):<\/strong><\/td>\nInsert your fully qualified domain name or subdomain. For example, <\/span>yourdomain.com or mail.yourdomain.com<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> If you have a Wildcard SSL<\/a> certificate, it is possible to specify the domain name in the *.yourdomain.com format to use the certificate with SonicWALL.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    <\/td>\nThe domain name should be pointed to the SSL-VPN appliance\u2019s external public IP address.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    <\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Email Address:<\/strong><\/td>\nPlease specify your contact e-mail address.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Password:<\/strong><\/td>\n Enter a password to secure the private key created along with the CSR and make sure that the password is saved. It will be used during installation of your issued SSL. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Key Length (bits):<\/strong><\/td>\n In the drop-down list, select <\/span>2048<\/strong>. The size must be at least 2048 bits. Also, you can use the 4096-bit key. SonicWALL supports key sizes from 1024 to 4096 bits.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Please make sure that the 1024-bit key is not used as it is considered vulnerable.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    5. Once everything is done, please press <\/span>Submit<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    6. Please save the created .zip file on your desktop for convenience:<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    7.Open the created .zip file and extract the two files: server.csr and server.key.<\/span><\/p>\n

    8. After that, please select the file with the .csr extension and open it with a text editor.<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/p>\n

    NOTE:<\/strong> A Private key (.key file) is obligatory to be saved. It will be used during installation. <\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/p>\n

    9.<\/span>Now you can use your newly generated CSR code with the —–BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST—–<\/em> and —–END CERTIFICATE REQUEST—–<\/em> tags for activation. Your newly purchased SSL can be activated <\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
