{"id":69,"date":"2019-07-09T07:09:39","date_gmt":"2019-07-09T07:09:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/?p=69"},"modified":"2021-08-12T11:08:29","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T11:08:29","slug":"how-to-install-an-ssl-certificate-on-plesk-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/how-to-install-an-ssl-certificate-on-plesk-12\/","title":{"rendered":"How to install an SSL certificate on Plesk 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Need help installing your SSL? <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/ssl-installation-service\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our experts can do it for you<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On Plesk 12, you&#8217;ll have the following security options available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#csr_on_pl\">Secure website when CSR was generated in Plesk Panel<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#csr_else\">Secure website when CSR was generated elsewhere<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#key\">Retrieve a Private Key for the SSL export<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#lgn\">Securing the login page and mail services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#wbml\">Securing webmail service<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once the Certificate is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/okay-so-i-ordered-an-ssl-how-do-i-get-it-to-work-on-my-domain\/\">activated<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/how-can-i-complete-the-domain-control-validation-for-my-ssl-certificate\/\">validated<\/a> and issued, you will need to install it on your webserver.<\/p>\n<p>To install the SSL Certificate, please do the following:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"csr_on_pl\">With a CSR generated on Plesk<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to your Plesk Panel.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <b><i>Websites &amp; Domains<\/i><\/b> tab and click on the domain you need to install an SSL Certificate for.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_1.png\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Choose the <b><i>SSL\/TLS Certificates<\/i><\/b> option in the <b>Security<\/b> section.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_2.png\" \/><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: On the older versions of <\/i><b><i>Plesk <\/i><\/b><i>(up to <\/i><b><i>Plesk 12.5<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> <i>the corresponding menu option is called <\/i><b><i>\u201cSecure Your Sites\u201d <\/i><\/b><i>instead of <\/i><b><i>\u201cSSL\/TLS Certificates\u201d<\/i><\/b><i> .<\/i><\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Advanced Settings<\/b> on the right side of the page. This will bring you to the SSL setup panel.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_3.png\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Select the SSL Certificate entry you created when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/how-to-generate-a-csr-code-on-plesk-12\/\">generating the CSR code<\/a> for SSL activation:<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_8.png\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Upload the Certificate files on this page.<b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: The Certificate Authority sends the SSL Certificate files to the administrative contact email address used for the SSL order. The same cert files are also available for <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/Can-I-download-certificate-somewhere-on-your-site-\"><i>download<\/i><\/a><i> inside your account with us. CA Bundles for your Certificate can also be downloaded <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/where-do-i-get-a-ca-bundle-file\/\"><i>here<\/i><\/a><i>.<\/i>\n<ol>\n<li>First, upload the end-entity Certificate issued for your domain name where it says <b><i>Certificate <\/i><\/b>at the top of the page. Click the <b><i>Choose File<\/i><\/b> button to find the files on your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Next, click the <b><i>Choose File<\/i><\/b> button next to <b><i>CA Certificate <\/i><\/b>to find the chain of intermediate Certificates (CA Bundle) that signs your domain Certificate on your computer.<\/li>\n<li>After both files are chosen, click the <b><i>Upload Certificate<\/i><\/b> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_9.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, you can open the domain Certificate and the CA bundle files with a text editor, then paste the plain text codes into the corresponding fields on the page and click <b><i>Upload Certificate.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: On the older versions of <\/i><b><i>Plesk <\/i><\/b><i>(up to <\/i><b><i>Plesk 12.5<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> <i>the corresponding button is called <\/i><b><i>\u201c<\/i><\/b><b><i>Send Text<\/i><\/b><b><i>\u201d <\/i><\/b><i>instead of <\/i><b><i>\u201c<\/i><\/b><b><i>Upload Certificate<\/i><\/b><b><i>\u201d<\/i><\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Go back to the <b><i>Websites &amp; Domains <\/i><\/b>menu and click on <b><i>Hosting Settings<\/i><\/b> in the section below the domain name you want to secure.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_10.png\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the <b><i>Security<\/i><\/b> section on the next page, select the Certificate you want to apply from the drop-down menu and click <b><i>Apply<\/i><\/b> at the bottom of the page.<b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: On the older versions of <\/i><b><i>Plesk <\/i><\/b><i>(up to <\/i><b><i>Plesk 12.5<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> <i>you need to click <\/i><b><i>OK<\/i><\/b><i> instead.<\/i>Make sure the <b>SSL Support<\/b> box is checked.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_11.png\" \/><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: If you want an <\/i><b><i>automated HTTP&gt;HTTPS redirect<\/i><\/b><i> to be enabled for the website, check the <\/i><b><i>Permanent SEO-safe 301 redirect<\/i><\/b><i> box too, as shown in the above screenshot.<\/i>The Certificate is now installed and applied for the website. You can check the installation at <a href=\"https:\/\/decoder.link\/sslchecker\">https:\/\/decoder.link<\/a>.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_19.png\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"csr_else\">With a CSR generated elsewhere<\/h2>\n<p>This method can be used if you are importing an SSl created elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>This method can also be used if the <i>\u201cAuto-activate\u201d<\/i> option was used during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/okay-so-i-ordered-an-ssl-how-do-i-get-it-to-work-on-my-domain\/\">SSL activation<\/a>, and the Private key was generated in-browser and you saved it to your PC.<\/p>\n<p>Steps <b>1-4<\/b> are the same as <a href=\"#csr_on_pl\">above<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">5. Then, click <b>Add SSL\/TLS Certificate <\/b>to add a new Certificate entry.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_4.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>6. On the next page, you will be prompted to upload the Certificate files you received from the Certificate Authority via email, as well as the Private key.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: You can also <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/Can-I-download-certificate-somewhere-on-your-site-\"><i>download<\/i><\/a><i> the Certificate along with the bundle in your account with us. CA Bundles for all Certificates can be downloaded <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/where-do-i-get-a-ca-bundle-file\/\"><i>here<\/i><\/a><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Next to <b><i>Certificate s<\/i><\/b>elect the <b><i>Choose File<\/i><\/b> button to find the Certificate files on your computer. Please upload the domain Certificate issued for your website.<\/li>\n<li>For <b><i>CA Certificate<\/i><\/b>, choose the chain of intermediate Certificates (CA Bundle) that signs your domain Certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">After both files are chosen, click <b><i>Upload Certificate<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_12.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, you can paste the domain Certificate (.crt file) and the CA bundle (.ca-bundle file) as plain text codes into the corresponding fields below and click <b><i>Upload Certificate.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: On the older versions of <\/i><b><i>Plesk <\/i><\/b><i>(up to <\/i><b><i>Plesk 12.5<\/i><\/b><i>)<\/i> <i>the corresponding button is called <\/i><b><i>Send Text<\/i><\/b> <i>instead of <\/i><b><i>Upload Certificate<\/i><\/b><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Steps <b>7-8<\/b> are the same as <a href=\"#csr_on_pl\">above<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"key\">Retrieve a Private Key for the SSL export<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes the same SSL should be installed on another Plesk panel or application. You may need to do this if, for example, you have a multi-domain type of SSL and the domain names are hosted separately.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, after completing <a href=\"#csr_on_pl\">steps 1-5 above<\/a>, click the green arrow button on the right-hand side of the panel to download the Certificate, CA Certificate and Private key as one combined file.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_13.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This file can be opened with any text editor (for example, <b>Notepad\/Notepad++<\/b> on Windows or <b>TextEdit<\/b> on Mac).<\/p>\n<p>Install the Certificate on other server using the corresponding guide from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/where-can-i-find-instructions-on-how-to-install-my-ssl-certificate\/\">this list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"lgn\">Securing the login page and mail services<\/h2>\n<p>To secure the Plesk login page and mail services (SMTP, IMAP, POP3), you will need to log in to your server as <b><i>Administrator<\/i><\/b> or have administrator privileges first.<\/p>\n<p>Next, go to <b><i>Tools and Settings<\/i><\/b> and click on <b><i>SSL\/TLS Certificates <\/i><\/b>in the <b><i>Security<\/i><\/b> section.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_14.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll find two options: <b><i>Certificate for securing Plesk<\/i><\/b> and <b><i>Certificate for securing mail<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_15.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>Keep in mind that these are two independent services that can be secured separately.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Then click <b><i>Change<\/i><\/b>, highlighted in blue to the right of both options, and choose the correct SSL and confirm.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u00a0Note<\/i><\/b><i>: On <\/i><b><i>Plesk Obsidian<\/i><\/b><i>, you can also secure the mail services directly from the SSL page. Simply mark it and click the <\/i><b><i>Secure mail <\/i><\/b><i>button:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ples_k_16.png\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"wbml\">Securing webmail service<\/h2>\n<p>Steps <b>1-5<\/b> are the same as <a href=\"#csr_on_pl\">described above<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">6.
