Only alphanumeric characters must be used. If not, it is possible that a Certificate Authority will reject the CSR and certificate activation will fail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Check the box <\/span><strong>When complete, email me the certificate, key, and CSR <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in order to<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get your CSR, self-signed certificate and private key to the email address you mention in the field <\/span><strong>Email address<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Email.<\/strong> The correct and accessible contact email address should be entered here so that a Certificate Authority can use it to verify domain ownership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Key size. <\/strong>There are two options: 2048 and 4096.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, any of them can be chosen.<\/p>\n<p>As for 2048 key size, it is considered secure nowadays, however if you would like to have a higher level of security, choose 4096 key size.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that a bigger key size slows down establishment of an SSL\/TLS session and increases load on your server\u2019s central processor unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whm_csr_2.png\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Domains.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Common Name is a fully-qualified domain name for which you are going to use your certificate, for instance, the area of your site you wish customers to connect to using SSL. Example: <em>domain.com<\/em> or <em>www.domain.com<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If the Web address to be used for SSL is <em>sub1.example.com<\/em>, ensure that the common name submitted in the CSR is <em>sub1.example.com<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a Wildcard certificate, the common name for your certificate should be the following: <em>*.example.com<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Note:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/comodo-ssl-certificates\/\">Comodo<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/comodo-ca-rebrands-as-sectigo\">now Sectigo<\/a>) certificate ordered for example.com is issued, signed and works both for example.com and www.example.com. And vice versa: if you order a certificate for www.example.com, it will be issued for both www.example.com and example.com.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; City.<\/strong> Name of the city in which your organization is registered\/located should be listed here. Do not use abbreviations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; State.<\/strong> Name of a state or province where your organization is located. Enter the full name of the state or province.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Country.<\/strong> The country where your organization is registered should be selected.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whm_csr_3.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Company<\/strong> <strong>Name.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The name of the company you issue certificate for should be entered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Company Division.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This field is used to differentiate between divisions within a company. For instance, Billing or Information Technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have a certificate with domain validation, it is not necessary to specify Company Name and Company Division. However, the fields must be filled in, do not leave them blank, put there <em>NA<\/em> instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whm_csr_4.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is not obligatory to fill in the field <strong>Passphrase<\/strong>. It is created for the <em>challenge password<\/em> which used to be a shared secret between a certificate applicant and a Certificate Authority. This feature is obsolete nowadays and is not required for your SSL issuance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whm_csr_5.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4)<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5)<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the next page you will see three fields: <strong>Signing Request<\/strong>, <strong>Certificate<\/strong> and <strong>Private Key<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/whm_csr_6.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Signing Request.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) which is needed for your certificate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssls.com\/knowledgebase\/okay-so-i-ordered-an-ssl-how-do-i-get-it-to-work-on-my-domain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">activation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on ssls.com.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Certificate.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s a self-signed, non-trusted certificate issued for your domain. It will not be used further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Private Key.<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a key necessary for decoding during SSL\/TLS handshake once your certificate is installed.
